Both are manufactured, so this is a comparison between two engineering choices rather than between nature and a factory. Engineered quartz is ground stone in resin: workable with standard stone tooling, easy to give a thick shaped edge, repairable at the edges, and vulnerable to heat and to UV — most quartz is not warranted outdoors, because the resin yellows. Porcelain is a fired ceramic body: impervious, heatproof, UV-stable, and therefore the outdoor option, made in panels thin and large enough for cabinet faces and walls. The trade-offs show up in fabrication. Porcelain is usually thin, so a substantial edge means a miter, and miters in porcelain want a fabricator who has done them before. For an indoor kitchen either works. For an outdoor kitchen in this climate it is porcelain, and it is not a close call.
